Winning State Medicaid Contracts…Case Study #3

Vargo Consultants creates partnership between Plexis and Accenture to win the State of Iowa Medicaid contract.

As an extension of the early work completed by Vargo Consultants for Plexis Healthcare Systems, Inc. to build a state and federal government division, Vargo identified and secured a partnership contract between Accenture and Plexis to go after this market opportunity. Vargo Consultants led this effort by identifying the partner company (Accenture), developing the vision and rationale for a partnership,and then coordinating a series of meetings between the companies to determine the fit. Accenture, a multi-billion dollar system integrator that had long serviced state Medicaid clients, lacked a core MMIS solution to be able to position themselves as a potential prime contractor for this business. Plexis’ Quantum Choice product was the perfect COTS-based solution to fulfill Accenture’s need for a core MMIS. Through an intensive nine months of due diligence and evaluation on behalf of both companies, it was mutually agreed that a partnership should be formed. In early 2010, with Vargo facilitating a significant portion of the dialogue and financial negotiations, the partnership was finalized.

In 2011, with Plexis’ Quantum Choice product serving as the core MMIS component of the APHP (Accenture Public Health Platform), Accenture was awarded the contract for the State of Iowa’s MMIS solution. At nearly $200M in total contract value, this was a large win for both organizations and firmly secured Plexis and Accenture as the next generation solution of choice for state Medicaid programs.
